Mr Paul Wakeling, the Chairman of Paul Wakeling Motor Group, founded Paul Wakeling Holden in Campbelltown in 1985, with a staff of just five. The business today encompasses all of the above, as well as a total staff of over 180 people.
A family orientated business, Paul and Margaret Wakeling's son Scott is now the Managing Director of the group, having taken over the stewardship of the company from Paul in 2006.
Paul Wakeling has been involved in the motor industry virtually his entire working life.
He held a number of senior appointments in various dealerships in Canberra, and it was his success as Managing Director of Beazley & Bruce Holden in the early eighties that lead to him being asked by General Motors Holden to open a new car franchise for them in the rapidly expanding Macarthur region.
Paul accepted the challenge with much enthusiasm and after trading in Campbelltown since 1985, Paul Wakeling Holden was officially opened by motor racing legend Peter Brock in 1986.
In 1987 Paul agreed to take on the then virtually unknown Hyundai brand. Today, Paul Wakeling Hyundai is one of the largest Hyundai dealerships in Sydney.
In 1993 the Mitsubishi franchise was added to the stable, and the franchise is a large contributor to the ongoing success of the group.
The opening of Paul Wakeling Holden Camden in recent years, reinforces the company's commitment to the Holden brand and its continued confidence in the growth of the Macarthur region.
Growth continues today with the opening of Volkswagen and Great Wall Motors at our Campbelltown location more recently.
The Wakeling success story is not just confined to new car sales. On any given day, there are around 150 quality and prestige used cars on display, including dedicated vehicle yards at Campbelltown (on the corner of Mill and Blaxland Roads) and at Camden Holden in Edward Street at Camden.
The Paul Wakeling Motor Group also comprises of a highly professional Finance and Insurance Department, After-market Department, Fleet Department, IT and Administration Department, and Service and Parts Centre that has over 40 vehicle work stations and incorporates a comfortable waiting lounge and Yard Café. Carwash facilities include a new state of the art and environmentally friendly system, which is available to customers of the Paul Wakeling Motor Group.
The success of the Paul Wakeling Motor Group should not however be judged on its phenomenal sales record or size.
Paul maintains his company's success was built on "supporting the people of the Macarthur region as much as they have supported me."
Over the years, the Group has supported many community and sporting organisations including being the Major Local Sponsor of West Tigers, donations to St Thomas More Primary School and St Gregory's College to name a few.
Paul Wakeling's philanthropic commitment is best reflected in "Wakeling's Wheels for Life". Since 1997, every vehicle purchased from the Paul Wakeling Motor Group results in a financial benefit to Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals.
To date the campaign has raised in excess of $540,000 providing much needed equipment, including x-ray machines, an ECG machine, bladder scanners and a digital camera for use in surgical procedures.
For Paul, "Wakeling's Wheels for Life" is his way of saying thank you to the people of Macarthur for their support of his company encapsulated in the company slogan of "We're looking after Macarthur".
