New Hyundai Elantra

The BIG small car
The new Elantra combines smart design, cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art engineering to give you the manoeuvrability and agility of a compact, with all the appointments and space you’d expect in a big car.
At first glance, you’ll notice that the Elantra is larger and sleeker. Get behind the wheel and you’ll discover it’s also smarter with a newly designed engine that delivers more power while achieving greater fuel economy. The windswept sculptured body aides Elantra to slip through the air for better performance and lower fuel consumption.
With an exceptionally high level of standard inclusions and finishes, you’ll love driving – or being driven in – the new Elantra. And with the inclusion of numerous cutting-edge passive and active safety technologies, you can do so with complete confidence and peace of mind.
Windswept lines that evoke movement, power and excitement
The new Elantra breaks free from the staid appearance that’s usually associated with small cars, to incorporate the “fluidic sculpture” design language that now characterises the newest members of the Hyundai family. It’s a design inspired by nature and refined by science that combines beautiful lines and curves that are seemingly carved by the wind, with an athletic ‘ready-to-pounce’ stance, to create a dynamic sense of continual motion.
Created by Hyundai's design team, every detail of the Elantra adds to its sophisticated visual statement. From the hexagonal grille that’s connected by character lines to the wrap around tail-lights, through to the coupe-like roofline and muscular wheel arches, the Elantra turns heads and quickens pulses.
But looks are just the beginning. Detailed craftsmanship and the use of superior grade materials ensure that the Elantra backs every inch of style with an equivalent amount in substance. A smart interior designed for relaxed driving. The Elantra’s exterior design lines sweep through to an elegant and stylish interior that features a wave-like dashboard and centre console. Aesthetically pleasing textured finishes are soothing on the eyes, while two prominent gauges at the centre of the instrument panel provide at-a-glance details of drive information.
From the driver's cockpit, every control, button and knob has been logically placed and is within easy reach to help you keep your eyes on the road while driving. Superior-grade materials, inside and out. The Elantra’s high levels of standard equipment provide immediate evidence of Hyundai’s vision to design and build leading quality.
But there is much more to the Elantra’s quality story than simply a list of inclusions, such as the meticulous attention to detail that’s reflected in everything from the design of the cat's eye headlamps through to the location – and amount – of storage areas.
Craftsmanship and superior-grade materials are likewise reflected in touches such as the premium steering wheel and gear knob, quality upholstery and the use of soft-touch surfaces. From start to finish, the Elantra makes an adamant statement of design and engineering excellence that makes it arguably the best value car on the road today.
An intuitive and responsive drive
The Elantra’s elegant aerodynamic design and confident stance, together with a suspension that’s been tuned specifically for Australian conditions, provides you with an effortless and assured road-hugging driving performance. Motor driven electric steering and the intuitive placement of instruments and controls, add to the ease of driving, while the Elantra’s sophisticated 6-speed SHIFTRONIC® automatic or six-speed manual transmission deliver smooth acceleration with greater fuel efficiency.
The Elantra provides you with the small car benefits of being economical and easy to drive and manoeuvre in the city, combined with all the big car benefits of a roomy and comfortable interior, as well as the power to take on the open road.
All the comfort and space of a big car
The Elantra delivers all the luxurious space you’d expect in a much bigger car. With loads of legroom, generous headroom and class-leading shoulder room for both front and rear-seat passengers, the Elantra allows five adults to enjoy the journey in comfort, putting it in a class of its own. A level of appointments that’s second-to-none At Hyundai, we believe in making rich technology and cutting-edge innovation accessible to everyone. That’s why – unlike ordinary small cars – the Elantra is packed with best-choice equipment and appointments. Features such as push-button start and Smart Key Proximity entry (Elite and Premium) set the tone for sophisticated specifications such as the Elantra’s dualzone automatic air-conditioning system (with air ioniser), which allows the front passenger and driver to adjust the climate to their individual preferences.
Similarly, for total driving comfort and ease, the steering wheel offers full tilt and telescopic adjustment, and is mounted with touch button controls for audio, Bluetooth® and cruise functions. And because taking your music with you is such an integral part of time on the road, the Elantra’s integrated audio system provides brilliant sound reproduction and includes radio, MP3/CD player, AUX and Bluetooth®^ connectivity. A USB port allows you to connect a USB stick, MP3 player or your iPod®#, while the audio system also allows hands-free use of your mobile phone and enables you to stream music directly from your Bluetooth® compatible mobile phone or media device.
More power and 11% more efficient^
At the heart of the Elantra lies a brand new, highly advanced engine (designed and built by Hyundai) that’s coupled to a choice of two new transmission systems. The all-new 1.8 litre ‘Nu’ engine, made of stronger yet lighter aluminium, delivers up to 110kW of power while producing 178Nm of torque at 4,700rpm. This lighter engine, together with the use of Continuously Variable Valve Timing technology on both cam shafts, helps deliver significantly greater fuel efficiency – as little as 5.6l/100km* on highway cycle.
An electronic throttle control accurately manages air intake and engine torque, which further improves driveability, responsiveness and economy. When combined, the Elantra’s powerful performance, exceptionally low fuel consumption and reduced C02 emissions all add up to one of the best performances in its class.
Built-in safety – drive with confidence
Hyundai is driven by a philosophy to build the safest cars on the road today, which means that safety considerations begin with a tough and uncompromising approach to vehicle engineering.
Designed to protect
Achieving Australia’s highest possible occupant safety rating – 5 Star ANCAP – the Elantra has been engineered with ultra-high tensile strength Australian steel to provide a stronger chassis. Likewise, safety-critical areas such a door modules and intrusion beams have been reinforced to provide greater protect in the event of an impact.
Designed to avoid
Also standard on the Elantra are six airbags, including dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and roof-mounted side curtain bags that provide cocoon-like safety at every seating position. While driving the Elantra, a myriad of active safety technologies are continuously at work, monitoring the vehicle’s performance and handling, ready to spring into action to assist you maintain or regain control. These include the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control System (TCS), which senses the loss of wheel grip (such as when skidding) and then applies individual wheel braking, together with engine and transmission adjustments, to help you get the vehicle back on its intended course.
In emergency situations the state-of-the-art Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system integrates all the active safety technologies in the Elantra including the power steering. VSM aides in maintaining vehicle control, even by providing forced counter steering to help you get back on track.
Parking sensors warn you when you’re getting too close to an object, while a reverse camera (Premium only) built into the rear of the vehicle provides a colour LCD image of the area behind the vehicle, for additional safety and protection.
